Course Development & Training ~ Ecampus

This summer I was an intern at Ecampus working under the branch of CDT (Course Development and Training). Ecampus was in contact with a professor for ST 351 who was interested in improving the online course, that's where my internship came in. I took a week of training to get the skills and knowledge it takes to work with Canvas and know the strategies of making accessability a prority for students.
My project was to work with my mentor Melanie Kroening, Instructual Designer, to do research and enhance the course materials. During this internship I had the chance to share ideas with my mentor and impliment them myself into a Canvas course that I created for this course.
During this internship I made great connections and learned many skills that I can apply to my own professional field and into my daily life. For example being able to work independently with minor assistance from a professional. I also learned how to keep track of what I'm doing, what I've done, what needs to be done and what I need to fix. As I continue to make new lectures, I would have to take a short break to make changes to previous lectures and take notes for future lectures, it was difficult at first to keep track of it all. These are simply a couple of the many skills I got from this internship and I plan to continue collecting many other skills throughout my working experience.

Here's a list of what we thought we could improve:
-
Lessons were primarily textual
-
Lessons posted as PDF’s on Canvas
-
Questions and Answers listed within the lesson on separate pages
-
Videos and Lectures were linked out on Canvas
-
Inconsistent color patterns with words and textboxes
These are the changes that I made into the online course:
-
Added imagery and color patterns to effect emotion and (enhance learning strategies) make content approachable
-
Converted PDF lectures to Canvas Pages which are accessible to all students
-
Embedded videos within pages instead of having links
-
Added interactivity to the Questions and Answers
-
Embedded Quizlet for studying purposes
-
Added graded quizzes for self-checks after each lesson
